Been seeing this little beauty in the late afternoon for many years now, and only recently did it occur to me to look it up. Star jasmine (Trachelospermum asiaticum) also known as Confederate jasmine or Asian star jasmine, is native to China and Japan, but is not a true variety of the jasmine species (Jasminum). In Barbados I usually see it growing as an ornamental shrub, but appartently this lovely flower is known elsewhere for having its own unique, fragrant qualities. The small white blossoms are highly perfumed, although when I pass by this particular shrub unfortunately I don’t detect its scent, so possibly they only release it either very early in the morning or late at night like many scented flowers do.
